The emerald
A variety of beryl coloured by chromium, the emerald is one of the four precious stones. Its value rests above all on colour: saturation, hue and evenness are the deciding criteria. Its natural inclusions, known as the “garden”, attest to the stone's authenticity and are recognised as such by gemmologists.
